Weaver Should Resign
The City Council voted to have Councilman Dave Weaver receive harassment training as described in a front page News Press article on Thursday May 8, 2014. If Dave Weaver had the best interests of the City of Glendale at heart, which he always professes to do, he would do the right thing and submit his resignation effective June 3rd.
Since the special election falls on that day, two of the candidates currently seeking to fill the seat temporarily held by Councilman Quintero could then fill both council seats until the regular election in April, 2015. This would alleviate an unpleasant situation facing the current City Council having to deal with probable public outcry over Weaver for the remainder of his term. He would certainly have the opportunity to run for election next April if he so choses.
Since Dave Weaver has been on the council longer than any other current council member, his voting record has attributed greatly to the financial crises currently facing our city.
Additionally, Weaver has become more and more antagonistic towards public speakers attending council meetings to speak about financial decisions facing the City Council, which they disagreed with. Obviously, the public was more aware of the financial implications of the issues approved by the council over the years. Weaver has demonstrated little professionalism dealing with not only the public, but with city employees as well. The latest incident at Joselilto’s isn’t the first in his long tenure as a public official. He certainly has not demonstrated the respect that his elected office requires from a public servant.
