Coalition Calls for Public Involvement in Selecting the Next City Manager.
The Coalition believes that an open and competitive selection process for finding our next city manager would be the most beneficial to the city, its citizens, and Glendale City employees. Once the Manager’s application process has closed and all applicants have submitted their applications according to the guidelines dictated by City Council we suggest that the applicants be made public with relevant information about the applicants qualifications and experience.
This will provide an opportunity to the public and the Coalition to investigate the candidates, examine their character and principles, evaluate their accomplishment, determine their management method, measure their prior performance and determine their possible financial interests. We might even be able to inquire with some of the applicants peers and colleagues their opinion about the candidate. This process will act as a large scale communal vetting system in finding the best city manager for Glendale.
The public’s involvement in this process only enhances and provides additional information to you. This is a unique opportunity to engage the public and create a collaboration where you can draw on the investigative power of almost 200 thousand citizen.
We respectfully urge city council to give our request full consideration.
