Bringing pot shops to Glendale
At the November 17th. council meeting ‘bringing pot shops to Glendale” was discussed. The result consensus (or not) was interesting. Mayor Devine felt Marijuana was a *gateway drug. Mr. Gharpetian felt this went against his principles. While Mr. Agajanian called for and got more analysis going forward into 2018.
Mr. Sinanyan & Ara Najarian were a bit more open to the idea. Najarian at that time added comments the most interesting of which was ” allowing Marijuana to be sold in Glendale would help strike a blow against drug dealers & diminish the Black market.”
Really? According to a L.A. Times article 1-27-18 this is a half truth at best. Yes Mexico’s pot trade is lessening in lieu of more lucrative crops like Avacado’s. But hold your horses *folks. Cartels are now concentrating on Herion-Fentanyl and petro-fuel for export . This nasty business brings with it far more violence and bloodshed due to the high profit margins. Would local acceptance of “pot shops” i.e.”the Genie’s out of the bottle mentality be any different”? U.S. Federal law still considers pot a Schedule 1 drug.
According to Mexicos’ presidential hopeful Margarita Zavala ” It is naive to believe that Marijuana will reduce crime rates”. I say trust the experts on this one as Glendale already has a reputation as one of the worst cities in the country to drive in. Could this get worse?
Yes medical Marijuana is a great help to those suffering from dreaded disease’s like Cancer and MS to name a few and I fully support this. Voters in California said yes to it’s legalization. How will city council vote? E-Mail or call council and let them know how you feel. After all they are here to listen to and serve those who voted them into office.
